Stretching of abdominal wall (abdominoplasty)

Abdominoplasty is done under epidural anaesthesia in the outpatient setting. After liposuction of the abdomen and flanks (see liposuction), the skin between the naval and mons pubis is removed in accordance with a drawing prepared before the operation.

The straight abdominal muscles that are usually separated after a pregnancy (diastasis recti) are joined in the centre of the abdomen to rejuvenate the abdomen also from a muscular perspective. The navel is sutured back in the appropriate position and the wound closed by suturing several skin layers. The two drainage tubes are removed after approx. 2 days. A compression suit to be worn after the surgery avoids excessive movement. Work can be resumed after 2 to 3 weeks.

For the so-called mini abdominoplasty, the skin between the naval and mons pubis is removed after liposuction, but the navel is not shifted and muscles are not usually sutured.
